Niagara Pallet Shoot~ Fonthill/ St Ann’s Photographer

February 3rd, 2012

What I love about this job is, all the people I get to meet and help out. Today was a busy day and I bet no other photographer could say today that they photographed, head shots, industrial pallets, industrial Yard, booked a wedding AND photographed 70 or so minor sport girls hockey team portraits. It was a busy day today that’s for sure.

The most interesting part though today was heading out to Niagara Pallet, my newest 360° Commercial client. Fred and I met up last week for a site tour and to talk about what his company is looking for from me and to start a action plan for the next year. Niagara Pallet is in the process of updating their website, advertising avenues and social media presents. I am please to be working with them to improve the look and feel of their company, yes they are just pallets, but as I have learn in to meetings it is amazing on how much we rely on these few pieces of lumber.

Niagara Pallet has been doing this for almost 20 years now, family owned since the start and is now over 25 employees strong, they have an impressive fleet of trucks and offer a wide range of products and services that you can find on their site.

Not all photography is glamours and well exciting, today was a test of some new products for me with my green screen shooting. I went this way because of the wide range of use of these images, this also gives the client the flexibly to use it in many different ways.

Here is the setup and a before and after shot from today. If you or people you know are looking for any sort of commercial work such as Fred was, drop me a line joel@joelsmithphotography.ca

Where do the patience come from….

February 2nd, 2012

Patience~ is the state of endurance under difficult circumstances, which can mean persevering in the face of delay or provocation without acting on annoyance/anger in a negative way;

The many faces of children

Time & time again I have mom & dads, grandparents and so many others ask, where do I get my patience: from?

Well a few different places, I have been in photography business no entering my 17th year, so practice is apart of it. I also have four great kids at home that try my patience each and everyday :) honestly I lose my patients with them faster than anyone else. But I also learn from all 4 of them because kids in our life push us to no end sometimes. Kids are being kids most all of them do it as well. Last night I decide at around 7 pm or the start of “witching hour” for my little one I wanted to try some new head shot setups, just to test and see how things work. Well below you will see a few of the different challenges she gave me.

Kids will be Kids

I have a very special place for all my clients, but a bit more maybe with the families that have children with Atisum or Down Syndrome. Some of these parents are scared or nervous and have never had a family portrait because of their Children, or they have gone to other local photographers and after 20 to 30 mins just give up. I have heard this way to many times from my clients in the past few years.

PATIENCE is key!

I guess I look at it as a challenge to myself, and sometime they win! Just last week I was out with the Coens family, a 2nd year 360° family club member, it has been amazing to see Owen grow over the past two years. Owen is fighting and winning Autism, as alot of my family and friends children are as well. I will just say he won on that cold snowy day.

To my professional counterparts, take the time to learn play and have fun with the kids, they will come around most of the time. If you have any requests that come your way and you have concerns about contact me, we are all in this together so let’s not let things deter anyone from having a portrait.

My point is have fun with any children that walk into your studio, when you come to our home studio you and your kids will have just that.
